Cantwell Statement On Trump Administration's Intent To Ignore Senate Vote Saving Methane Waste Prevention Rule

May 10, 2017

Washington, D.C. – Today, Ranking Member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) made the following statement on the Department of the Interior’s response to the Senate vote upholding the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Methane and Waste Prevention Rule:

“What is now clear is that the BLM Methane Rule has the force of law and the Secretary of the Interior, the Attorney General, and the President should enforce it. The Department of the Interior cannot just decide to ignore methane pollution. The Senate refused to go along with the Administration’s attempt to undo the rule and now the Department of the Interior should enforce it or subject taxpayers to the unnecessary expense of a new administrative procedure.”
