The Week Ahead (July 26-30)

The table is set for the Senate to make some decisions on energy policy.  Here’s the one-minute elevator recap:

Majority Leader Harry Reid next week plans to bring energy legislation to the Senate floor.  The measure will include these elements: a legislative response to the Gulf oil spill, promotion of natural gas vehicles (especially big trucks), a section dealing with home energy renovations, and language to finance the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

Anticipating that Sen. Reid would deliver on his promise to take up energy before August recess, Senate Energy Committee did not schedule hearings or other business for next week.  Like many in the media, we had projected that much of the content of an energy bill would relate to our committee.  And we were right.

So, with no program next week, my colleagues are available to help support floor activities.   We invite you to check this space for updates.
