The Senate Energy Committee today held its organizational business meeting, adopting a funding resolution and ratifying 111th Congress subcommittee assignments.

Chairman Jeff Bingaman:  “I’m looking forward to working with the committee’s new ranking member, Sen. Murkowski, and to continuing the Energy Committee’s longtime tradition of bipartisanship.  Our country faces some serious energy challenges, and our committee is going to be fully engaged in finding ways to address these challenges.  We’re fortunate to have so many solid members on the Committee to help us put forward energy legislation this year that will be bold and, I hope, broadly supported.”

Ranking Member Lisa Murkowski:  “I am proud to serve as ranking member alongside Chairman Bingaman and other members of this committee, all of whom bring a variety of viewpoints and perspectives from across the country that will be indispensable as we craft a new energy bill.

“As we begin work on a comprehensive energy bill, it’s important to remember that our greatest chance for success is to work in a truly bipartisan way to develop a balanced energy plan that improves our national security and helps right the ailing economy.  I’m confident that this committee is up to the task.”
