  • On Tuesday, May 22, the Subcommittee on Energy will consider S.645, a bill to amend the Energy Policy Act of 2005 to provide an alternate sulfur dioxide removal measurement for certain coal gasification project goals; S.838, a bill to authorize funding joint ventures between United States and Israeli businesses and academics; S.1089, a bill to amend the Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline Act to follow the Federal Coordinator for Alaska Natural Gas Transportation projects to hire employees more efficiently; S.1203, a bill to enhance the management of electricity programs at the Department of Energy; H.R. 85, a bill to provide for the establishment of centers to encourage demonstration and commercial application of advanced energy methods and technologies; and H.R. 1126, a bill to reauthorize the Steel and Aluminum Energy Conservation and Technology Competitiveness Act of 1988.  Witnesses include Drue Pearce, federal coordinator, Alaska Natural Gas Transportation Projects; and David Hill, general counsel, U.S. Department of Energy.  (Dirksen 366 at 2:30 p.m.)

  • On Wednesday, May 23, the Full Committee will hold a business meeting to consider a couple dozen public lands, forests, parks and water bills, plus pending nominations.  The Short List of bills to be marked will be posted on the Committee website next week.  (Dirksen 366 at 11:30 a.m.)

  • On Thursday, May 24, the Full Committee will receive testimony on the opportunities and challenges associated with coal gasification, including coal-to-liquids and industrial gasification.  Witnesses will be announced next week on the ENR website.  (Dirksen 366 at 9:30 a.m.)

  • On Wednesday, May 30, the Subcommittee on Public Lands and Forests will have a field hearing to receive testimony on impacts of the Chinese hardwood plywood trade on the National Forest System and other public lands, and the communities that depend on them.  Witnesses will be announced on the ENR website.  (Medford, Ore., City Council Chambers, 411 West 8th St., at 12:00 noon)
