DOMENICI MARKS EARTH DAY BY URGING SENATE PASSAGE OF ENERGY BILL

Expands efficiency, conservation, renewables, technology

Washington, D.C. – Senate Energy & Natural Resources Chairman Pete V. Domenici today marked Earth Day by renewing his call for passage of comprehensive energy legislation through the Senate. His statement: “I can’t comprehend those who claim to care about our environment yet block a bill that increases energy efficiency and conservation, expands renewable energies tenfold and replaces environmental contaminants with clean ethanol. “This bill includes dozens of provisions that protect our environment. We invest nearly $2 billion in clean coal technology. We expand the use of wind, geothermal and solar energy. We expand the supply of clean natural gas and invest billions of dollars in research and technology that help protect our air and water. We replace MTBE with ethanol, a renewable energy that leaves our air and water clean. “I urge the senators who claim to care about the earth yet have blocked the energy bill to put their vote where their rhetoric is. Let’s pass legislation that makes a real difference for our environment.”
