The President today announced that he intends to nominate Jeffrey Clay Sell to be Deputy Secretary of Energy. Mr. Sell currently serves as Special Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs. He previously served as Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy. Prior to these appointments, Mr. Sell served as Staff Director and Republican Clerk for the Energy and Water Development Subcommittee. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University and his J.D. from the University of Texas. Senate Energy & Natural Resources Chairman Pete V. Domenici issued the following statement: “The President could not have picked a better person to be Deputy Secretary. Clay is one of the hardest working people I have met here in Washington and will be an exceptional Deputy. The President is clearly putting a strong team in place at the DOE.”
