Washington, D.C.Senate Energy & Natural Resources Chairman Pete V. Domenici today congratulated the Department of Energy for holding fast to the Dec. 31st deadline for pre-applications from energy companies for loan guarantees that would be applied to projects using clean and innovative technologies. In October, the department extended the deadline from Nov. 6 to Dec. 31st and there had been some concern that the deadline might to be extended again.

Holding firm with the current deadline means DOE can begin evaluating the applications for technical and commercial merit.

Domenici’s statement:

“It is important that DOE has held firm on this deadline. Republicans and Democrats created this loan guarantee program in the energy bill to advance commercial-scale energy projects that use innovative and clean technologies which will limit carbon emissions. We crafted a program that will accomplish those goals in a fiscally responsible manner.

“I congratulate Secretary Bodman and the department for moving forward with the launch of this program. However more needs to be done. I encourage Congress and the Administration to work toward solving technical concerns necessary for implementing this important EPAct title. Some of our most exciting and promising technologies – such as coal gasification, advanced nuclear and coal-to-liquids – depend on the success of this program.”
