Domenici, Bingaman Issue Joint Statement on Recent Oil Price Hearing Report

Washington, D.C. – Senate Energy & Natural Resources Chairman Pete V. Domenici and Ranking Member Jeff Bingaman today issued the following statement reflecting their colloquy during today’s 11:15 a.m. business meeting.

Joint Domenici/Bingaman statement:

“This morning, the Washington Post reported apparent inconsistencies between White House documents in their possession and testimony presented before this Committee in our joint hearing last week on oil prices.  We take this report seriously, but we think it is important to make sure that we have the facts straight and proceed in a fair and judicious manner.

“We have agreed to send a joint letter to each of the witnesses involved, asking for their prompt explanation, in writing, of these apparent inconsistencies.  Once we have these responses, we will share them with members of the Committee and the public, and then discuss further appropriate action.

“The subject matter of this dispute is in the jurisdiction of this Committee, and we believe that this is the best way to work together to responsibly address the concerns that have been raised.”
