Senate Committee on Energy & Natural Resources
Week of Jan. 24-28
  • On Wednesday, Jan. 26, our first hearing of the new Congress will examine the report and recommendations (including any recommendations for legislative action) issued by the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling.  That this is the Committee’s first hearing is an indication of the importance that Chairman Bingaman places on the need for reforms to ensure that our nation’s Outer Continental Shelf is managed in a safe, balanced and prudent manner.  In the last Congress, Senate Energy unanimously reported a bill (S. 3516) that would raise the bar on well safety, blowout prevention, oil spill response and worker training.  Legislation continues to be a top priority, to ensure that offshore oil and gas drilling is conducted in a safe manner that protects workers, local residents, natural resources and the economies that depend on those resources.  The commission’s two co-chairs, former Sen. Bob Graham and the Hon. William K. Reilly, will testify.  (325 Russell Office Building at 9:30 a.m.)

Rosemarie Calabro, press and media assistant for Committee Democrats, brings experience, institutional memory and a friendly, helpful nature to her new position. She started working for Senate Energy in 2003, as a summer hire, when she was a teen; after graduating from Georgetown in 2007 she was promoted to staff assistant.  So, she knows this Committee’s issues well, and she knows all of the people who work on them.  Rosemarie can be reached at 202/224-5039 and Rosemarie_Calabro@energy.senate.gov.
