Richland, Wash. – Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) commended the new five-year contract extension, through 2022, for Battelle Memorial Institute (Battelle) to manage and operate the Department of Energy (DOE)’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). The announcement was made by DOE Secretary Ernest Moniz who toured the Richland, Wash. research facility today at the invitation of Sen. Cantwell.

“Battelle Memorial Institute has been continuously operating Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) since 1965,” said Sen. Cantwell. “In fact, I was with Battelle in Washington, D.C. last spring celebrating their 50th anniversary. This is great news for the community – having Battelle operating the laboratory through 2022 provides stability and leadership here in the Tri-Cities.”
