The Sportsmen's Act of 2013

Recreational Fishing and Hunting Heritage and Opportunities Act
The Recreational Fishing and Hunting Heritage and Opportunities Act protects the public right to engage in recreational hunting, fishing and shooting on federal lands. It mandates that BLM and Forest Service managed lands be open to recreational hunting, fishing and shooting unless specifically closed by the agencies. The legislation does not impact the National Park System or the National Wildlife Refuge System.
Hydropower Improvement Act
The Hydropower Improvement Act of 2013 is bipartisan legislation that aims to substantially increase the United States’ hydropower capacity in an effort to expand clean-power generation and spur domestic job creation. As the country’s largest source of renewable energy, hydropower allows us to avoid approximately 200 million metric tons of carbon emissions each year. According to the Department of Energy, the U.S. has the potential for 300 gigawatts of additional hydropower.

Critical Minerals Policy Act of 2013
The Critical Minerals Policy Act of 2013 would revitalize the United States’ critical minerals supply chain and help reduce the nation’s dependence on foreign suppliers. It directs the Secretary of the Interior to establish a list of minerals critical to the American economy and provides a comprehensive set of policies to address issues associated with their discovery, production, use, and re-use.

Alaska Exception Reduced - U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, released a new report, The Alaska Exception: Energy and the Frontier. It is the first in a series of forthcoming staff reports entitled Alaska: First in Energy Alaska: First in Energy.
Defending the Strategic Petroleum Reserve
Sen. Murkowski has long cautioned against calls to sell crude oil from the reserve to pay for unrelated legislative initiatives. She has also pointed out that the reserve is in need of roughly $2 billion in repairs and upgrades in pipelines and other distribution infrastructure needed to ensure that oil can be transported where and when it is needed.
