Sen. Murkowski Applauds Approval of Greens Creek Exploration Plan

Permit will Allow Mine to Drill for New Mineral Resources in Expansion Bid

March 1, 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, today welcomed the U.S. Forest Service’s approval of an exploratory drilling permit for the Greens Creek Mine.

“The Forest Service’s approval is a positive development for the economy of Southeast,” Murkowski said. “The continued exploration around the existing mine site is vital to efforts to extend the life of the mine.”

The permit will allow Greens Creek Mine to explore this year for additional mineral resources adjacent to the existing mine site.

Greens Creek is a silver, gold and zinc mine located south of Juneau within the Admiralty Island National Monument.

The U.S. Forest Service this week announced it had approved an exploration permit in an inventoried roadless area on Admiralty Island.
