Washington, D.C. – Alex Flint, staff director of the Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee, announced plans today to leave the committee in the spring to accept the position of senior vice president for governmental affairs at Nuclear Energy Institute.

Flint will join NEI on or before April 30, 2006. The NEI Executive Committee will vote on the appointment at its Feb. 1, 2006 meeting. When Flint began discussing the position with NEI several weeks ago, he recused himself from all policy discussions at the committee on issues of interest to NEI or its members. Flint will continue to recuse himself until he departs.

"I think Alex will do an excellent job at NEI," said Senate Energy & Natural Resources Chairman Pete V. Domenici. "I anticipate appointing a new staff director soon and look forward to a smooth transition and another successful legislative year."

"It has been a privilege to work for Chairman Domenici, the senators on the energy committee and the committee staff," Flint said. "I have been challenged and inspired by the caliber of people with whom I’ve worked these past three years. I will leave this post with mixed emotions. However, this is an exciting time for nuclear energy in America and I look forward to contributing to the nuclear power renaissance in my new capacity."
