Washington, D.C. – Ranking Member Pete Domenici today praised outgoing Forest Service Chief Dale Bosworth for his 41 years of public service and congratulated Abigail Kimbell on her appointment to be the 16th Chief of the Forest Service.

Chairman Domenici’s statement:

“During his six years as Chief of the Forest Service, Dale Bosworth has been a credit to both the Forest Service family and the Department of Agriculture.  Without Dale’s leadership, the passage of initiatives like the Healthy Forest Restoration Act would have been much more difficult. The Chief should be extremely proud of his life’s work and his career.  I wish Dale and his wife, Carma, the best.

“I want to be the first to welcome Gail Kimbell back to Washington.  Gail’s years of Forest Service experience will serve her well in her new capacity.  I am looking forward to working with Chief Kimbell to tackle the most important issues facing the agency.  I am confident that she will bring fresh ideas and new vigor to the Forest Service.”

Dale Bosworth was born in Altadena, California and was raised in a Forest Service family.  Bosworth began his career in 1966 as a forester and worked as a line officer on several national forests as well as in planning staff positions in the West.  He worked in the Washington Office as Deputy Director of Forest Management from 1990 through 1992 before being assigned to the field as Deputy Regional Forester.  He was the Regional Forester for the Intermountain Region headquartered in Ogden.  Prior to his selection as Chief, he served as Regional Forester for the Northern Region, headquartered in Missoula, Montana.

Gail Kimball began her career in 1974 with the federal government as a forester with the Bureau of Land Management in Medford, Oregon.  She then held forester positions with the Forest Service, serving as district ranger in Oregon and Washington.  In April 2002, Kimbell joined the national headquarters from her position as forest supervisor of the Pike, San Isabel National Forests and the Comanche National Grasslands, Colorado.  In May 2002, Kimbell was selected to serve as the associate deputy chief for the national forest system and in 2003; she was named the northern regional forester in Missoula, Montana.
