ENR Advances Four DOE Nominees

March 7, 2019

The Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources (ENR) today held a business meeting to re-report four nominees for the Department of Energy:

  • Dr. Rita Baranwal to be Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy;
  • Mr. William Cooper to be General Counsel;
  • Dr. Christopher Fall to be Director of the Office of Science; and
  • Mr. Lane Genatowski to be Director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy.

President Trump initially nominated each individual reported today in the 115th Congress and re-nominated them earlier this year. Chairman Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, supported all four nominations as ENR favorably reported Baranwal, Cooper, Fall, and Genatowski by voice vote.

This marks the second time the committee has favorably reported these non-controversial nominees. Dr. Baranwal was favorably reported by voice vote on November 27, 2018. Cooper and Genatowski were favorably reported by voice vote on August 24, 2018. Fall was favorably reported by voice vote on July 24, 2018.

Murkowski, chairman of the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, urged her colleagues to work with her to expedite the nominees’ confirmations on the Senate floor.
