Chairman Murkowski and Ranking Member Cantwell Announce Upcoming Hearing Schedule

The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee has scheduled oversight hearings through the beginning of December on federal wildland fire management strategies, offshore oil and natural gas production regulations, and the implementation of the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA) of 1980. The committee will also hold a business meeting to consider pending nominations to the Departments of the Interior and Energy, the Bipartisan Sportsmen’s Act of 2015, and other pending legislation. Full details of the hearings and business meeting are below:

  • Tuesday, November 17, 10 a.m. Full committee hearing to review past wildfire seasons to inform and improve future federal wildland fire management strategies.

  • Thursday, November 19, 9:30 a.m. Full committee business meeting to consider the following agenda items:
    • S. 329, Lower Farmington River and Salmon Brook Wild and Scenic River Act, to amend the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act to designate certain segments of the Farmington River and Salmon Brook in the State of Connecticut as components of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System, and for other purposes. (Mr. Murphy).
    • S. 556, Bipartisan Sportsmen’s Act of 2015, a bill to protect and enhance opportunities for recreational hunting, fishing, shooting, and for other purposes. (Ms. Murkowski).
    • S. 782, Grand Canyon Bison Management Act, to direct the Secretary of the Interior to establish a bison management plan for the Grand Canyon National Park. (Mr. McCain).
    • S. 1583, Terror Lake Hydroelectric Project, a bill to authorize the expansion of an existing hydroelectric project. (Ms. Murkowski).
    • S. 1592, to clarify the description of certain Federal land under the Northern Arizona Land Exchange and Verde River Basin Partnership Act of 2005 to include additional land in the Kaibab National Forest. (Mr. Flake).
    • S. 1694, Yakima River Basin Water Enhancement Project Phase III Act of 2015, a bill to amend Public Law 103-434 to authorize Phase III of the Yakima River Basin Water Enhancement Project for the purposes of improving water management in the Yakima River basin, and for other purposes. (Ms. Cantwell).
    • S. 1941/H.R. 2223, Crags, Colorado Land Exchange Act of 2015, to authorize, direct, expedite, and facilitate a land exchange in El Paso and Teller Counties, Colorado, and for other purposes. (Mr. Gardner/Mr. Lamborn).
    • S. 1942/H.R. 1554, Elkhorn Ranch and White River National Forest Conveyance Act of 2015, to require a land conveyance involving the Elkhorn Ranch and the White River National Forest in the State of Colorado, and for other purposes. (Mr. Gardner/Mr. Tipton).
    • S. 2046, Mahoney Lake Hydroelectric Project, a bill to authorize the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to issue an order continuing a stay of a hydroelectric license for the Mahoney Lake hydroelectric project in the State of Alaska, and for other purposes.(Ms. Murkowski).
    • S. 2069, Mount Hood Cooper Spur Land Exchange Clarification Act, a bill to amend the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009 to modify provisions relating to certain land exchanges in the Mt. Hood Wilderness in the State of Oregon. (Mr. Wyden).
    • S. 2083, W. Kerr Scott Hydroelectric Project, a bill to extend the deadline for commencement of construction of a hydroelectric project. (Mr. Burr).
    • H.R. 373, Good Samaritan Search and Recovery Act, to direct the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Agriculture to expedite access to certain Federal land under the administrative jurisdiction of each Secretary for good Samaritan search-and-recovery missions, and for other purposes. (Mr. Heck).
    • H.R. 1324, Arapaho National Forest Boundary Adjustment Act of 2015, to adjust the boundary of the Arapaho National Forest, Colorado, and for other purposes. (Mr. Polis).
    • Nomination of Suzette M. Kimball, Ph.D. to be Director of the United States Geological Survey.
    • Nomination of Ms. Victoria Marie Baecher Wassmer to be Under Secretary of Energy.
    • Nomination of Cherry Ann Murray, Ph.D. to be Director of the office of Science at the Department of Energy.
    • Nomination of Mr. John Francis Kotek to be an Assistant Secretary of Energy (Nuclear Energy).

  • Tuesday, December 1, 10 a.m. Full committee hearing on the Well Control Rule and other regulations related to offshore oil and gas production.

  • Thursday, December 3, 10 a.m. Full committee hearing on the implementation of the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act of 1980, including perspectives on the Act’s impacts in Alaska and suggestions for improvements to the Act.
