Recovery Bill Rescues Tax Extenders, County Payments

Chairman Bingaman applauds the House of Representatives for passing the economic stabilization bill that includes a paid-for package of energy tax incentives as well as critical funding for forest communities/schools and support for rural counties with large amounts of Federal land. Bingaman was a key architect of both the tax provisions, from his perch on the Senate Finance Committee, and the rural and forest community provisions, which originated in bills before the Energy Committee.  The vote sent the bill to President Bush, who just signed it.
