The Energy Department’s 2006 energy outlook report, released yesterday, projects that higher world oil prices in the future will lead to more domestic crude oil production, lower demand for petroleum products, and consequently lower levels of petroleum imports. The 2006 report expects net petroleum imports to account for 60 percent of demand in 2025, down from 68 percent in the 2005 report.
