The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has exclusive authority to approve or deny an application for the siting, construction, expansion, or operation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals. Yesterday, FERC approved applications to develop five LNG import facilities. According to FERC, if these facilities are brought on line, it would initially increase U.S. LNG-import vaporization capacity by up to 8.2 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d) with a longer-range increase of approximately 9.7 bcf/d.
