Sen. Murkowski: IG Report Validates Commissions’ Concerns

June 26, 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, today commented on the Inspector General’s investigation of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The report follows a letter and congressional testimony from the other members of the commission publicly criticizing NRC Chairman Gregory Jaczko’s behavior and management style.

“Last year, all four NRC commissioners took the extraordinary and unprecedented step of coming forward with their concerns about Chairman Jaczko’s treatment of NRC employees. Today’s IG report validates their concerns regarding the chilled work environment under his Chairmanship.

“The NRC needs new leadership that will protect the values and critical mission of the agency. This report emphasizes the importance of a prompt confirmation vote on Allison Macfarlane and Kristine Svinicki so the NRC can go back to work ensuring the safety of America’s nuclear energy fleet.”
