Washington, D.C. – Senate Energy Committee Chairman Pete V. Domenici today announced that the committee will hold six hearings through February and early March that reflect some of the energy challenges and opportunities facing America today. Chairman Domenici’s statement: “Right now, America is faced with energy challenges and opportunities. We are on the brink of war in the Middle East and dangerously dependent on Middle East oil. Our president has challenged us to develop hydrogen-fueled vehicles as a means of decreasing our thirst for foreign oil. "I want to take American ingenuity and scientific prowess even further and look for additional ways to produce more clean and renewable energy while conserving more of the energy we now produce. “The committee’s hearings this spring will allow us to take a hard look at the energy challenges and opportunities that face us and develop legislation to seize our opportunities and empower us to tackle our challenges. My top prioritY will be hammering out a robust and diverse energy bill for floor consideration this summer.” The hearing schedule: What: Oil Supply and Prices When: Thursday, February 13 at 2:30 p.m. Where: SD-366 Who: Witnesses TBA What: Gas Supply and Prices When: Tuesday, February 25 at 2:30 p.m. Where: SD-366 Who: Witnesses TBA What: Energy Production on Federal Lands When: Thursday, February 27 at 10:00 a.m. Where: SD-366 Who: Witnesses TBA What: Financial Conditions of the Energy Market When: Tuesday, March 4 at 10:00 a.m. Where: SD-366 Who: Witnesses TBA What: Energy Use in the Transportation Sector When: Thursday, March 6 at 10 a.m. Where: SD-366 Who: Witnesses TBA What: Federal Programs for Energy Efficiency and Conservation When: Tuesday, March 11 Where: SD-366 Who: Witnesses TBA ###
